Sandra Wells Sumrall served as head coach of the JCJC women’s basketball team from 1999-2015.

She guided the Lady Bobcats to MACJC championships in 2001, 2009, 2010 and 2015. She led JCJC to regional play in 2001 and the south division crown that year. They were MACJC runnerup in 2003-04 and advanced to the regional semifinals in 2008-09.

She owned a 239-144 career coaching record at JCJC.

Prior to coaching at Jones, Sumrall was the junior high and assistant high school girls’ basketball coach at West Jones and became the head coach of the Lady Mustangs in 1982. She coached at West Jones from 1982-99 and lead the team to the Overall State 4A championship in 1997. She had a 364-136 record at West Jones.

She led the Lady Mustangs to five Southern Athletic Conference championships, six district championships, one South State 4A championship and one Overall State 4A championship. She led West Jones to five state tourney appearances. She was named SAC Coach of the Year three times and the Laurel-Jones County Coach of the Year once. 

She had two Mississippi Gatorade Players of the Year, an SEC Player of the Year, a Kodak All-American, a player on the 1992 USA women’s team in the Barcelona Summer Olympics and a player on the WNBA’s Portland Blazers.

Sumrall graduated from Northeast Jones and attended the University of Mississippi where she received scholarships from the Lady Rebel basketball and volleyball teams. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in physical education at Ole Miss and her master’s degree from William Carey University.

Sumrall is married to Rick Sumrall. They have two daughters, Brittany Johnson, who is married to Lance, and Chelsey Green, who is married to Chris, and four grandchildren: Walker Johnson, Beckett Johnson, Canton Green and Colson Green.
