Mike McClellan, a Heidelberg native and an All-Rebel Conference performer for two years at Heidelberg High School, was an All-American (NJCAA), All-State and All-Region quarterback for the Bobcats in 1962-63.

The Bobcats were 5-5 when he was the freshman starting quarterback and 7-3 when he was a sophomore. He also ran track at JCJC.

He then received a scholarship to Southern Miss where he held the record for lowest percentage for interceptions for over 100 passes, a record that stood for many years. He helped lead Southern Miss to a 7-6 upset victory over North Carolina State. He lettered in football and baseball at USM.

McClellan served on the JCJC Board of Trustees for 25 years and served for many years as President of the Board. He also served as President of the State Organization for Trustees for the state’s 15 community and junior colleges.

He also helped to restart the golf program at JCJC when his son wanted to play while in school.

McClellan served as a banker in the Heidelberg and Jasper County area for over 32 years. 

He and his wife, Margie, have been married for 43 years and currently reside in Hattiesburg. He has a son, Scotty, and a daughter, Suzanne Markel, along with three grandchildren – Tripp, Owen and Mac.
