Aubrey Wade was a triple threat as a runner, passer and punter for the Bobcats on the gridiron 1953-54.
He was an All-State player in 1954 and was named the Outstanding Player in the annual Lions Club Bowl in 1954. The Bobcats were 7-2-1 in 1953 and 8-1 in 1954.
Prior to coming to JCJC, Wade attended George S. Gardiner High School in Laurel and was a standout for the Golden Tornado football team. He was an All-Big 8 performer in football, won first place in the discus in the Big 8 Track Meet and also played basketball and baseball.
After leaving Jones, Wade went to Northeast Louisiana University, now known as the University of Louisiana-Monroe, where he set numerous records. He was second-team All-Gulf States Conference in 1955 and became the first NLU player to be named first-team All-GSC and All-American in 1956. He led the conference in rushing, scoring and punting in 1956.
He served as a basketball official for 26 years with the Louisiana High School Activities Association.
He was inducted in the NLU Hall of Fame in 1984 and is a member of the All-American Football Foundation.
Wade is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Arthur, La., where he has served on numerous church committees. He is a member of the JCJC Alumni Association and Bobcat Club.
Aubrey and his wife, Betty Aycock Wade, have been married for 60 yards. They have two children, Stephen Wade and Sally Wade Comer; three grandchildren, Trey and Ashley Wade and Jay Comer; and three great-grandchildren, Isabella and Meadow Bach and Zyla Comer.
