Gwen Magee began the Lady Bobcat softball program and served as head coach from 1987-98.
The Lady Bobcats were state champions in 1992, 1995, 1997 and 1998 and Region 23 champions in 1996 and 1998. She was selected Coach of the Year in 1992, 1996 and 1998 and led the Lady Bobcats to the NJCAA Tournament in 1995, 1997 and 1998. She compiled an impressive 302-182 record as head coach.
She wrote the proposal to start a women’s softball program at Jones and was able to get it approved, if she would serve as head coach.
Magee has worked at Jones for 25 years, serving 10 years as a coach. She now serves as director of the newly-formed Student Success Center.
She is a member of Ellisville First United Methodist Church, where she sings in the choir, teaches Sunday School and serves on numerous administrative groups. She is a past member of the Rotary Club and the Toastmasters Club. She is a current member of Maude Cooper Circle, Women in Higher Education, the Mississippi Counselors Association and the National Association of Student Personnel.
Gwen and her husband, Tommy, have three children, Johnny Milling and his wife, Candee; Katye and Trista Magee; and two grandchildren, Ramsey Milling and Rhaly Milling.
