Hall of Fame
Cecil Jordan was a longtime supporter of JCJC.
He, along with former head coach and Hall of Famer Parker Dykes, wrote four books on JCJC football, including A History of Bobcat Football at Jones County Junior College, A Supplement to the History of Bobcat Football at JCJC, The Final Chapter and Twentieth Century Football at JCJC.
Jordan also published Twentieth Century Lady Bobcat Basketball at Jones County Junior College, Twentieth Century Bobcat Basketball at Jones County Junior College and The History of Jones County Junior College Baseball.
In addition to the books on athletics, Jordan also wrote a family history book and a book entitled Ellisville in the Roaring ‘20s and the Terrible ‘30s.
Jordan served four years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. His outfit was involved in the “Battle of the Bulge” and he received the Battle Star.
After the war, Jordan returned home and received his associate degree from JCJC and bachelors degree from Southern Miss.
He began his teaching career at Kosciusko High School. He became principal at Long Beach High School and then went to Rolling Fork High School where he was a teacher and coached baseball and track and was an assistant football coach.
Jordan earned his masters degree during this time and eventually returned to Ellisville High School where he taught Science, was head track coach and assistant football coach. In 1963, Jordan became head football coach and continued as track coach.
In 1965, schools were consolidated in Jones County and Jordan was assigned to South Jones High School as a science teacher, assistant football coach and track coach. In 1968, he became principal at South Jones and remained there until his retirement in 1981.
Jordan was a faithful member of Ellisville United Methodist Church. He was also an ardent Southern Miss fan.
Jordan died Oct. 26, 2005, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jordan.
