Hall of Fame
Taylorsville native Ray Ishee played football and ran track at JCJC in 1966-67.
He was an all-state selection as a freshman, All-American Honorable Mention as a sophomore and played in the state's All-Star Game after his final season.
After leaving JCJC, Ishee went to Delta State University where he was team co-captain, won the Best Defense Award, was named Honorable Mention All-American and was selected by the Jackson Touchdown Club as Best Senior Athlete in 1969.Â
He coached at Cleveland High School from 1971-75, Greenwood High School from 1975-78 and was defensive line coach at Delta State in 1978-79.
Ishee went to Copiah-Lincoln as defensive coordinator in 1979 and was named head football coach and athletic director in 1985. In five seasons as head coach, Ishee led the team to a 37-17-1 record. Co-Lin made the playoffs four times in five years under Ishee’s leadership, winning division titles in 1986 and 1989 and both the MACJC championship and East Bowl in 1985.
He also served as track coach and led Co-Lin to the state and 1987 NJCAA Region 23 championship.
Ishee retired as head football coach and became Dean of Students at Co-Lin in 1990, a position he held until 2001.
He became principal and head football coach at Brookhaven Academy in 2001 and served as head coach at BA until 2006.
He now works for the Gatlin Corporation in Brookhaven.
Ishee was named to the 1995 NJCAA Hall of Fame, 2009 Co-Lin Hall of Fame and 2013 Delta State Hall of Fame.
He is a member of Wesson Baptist Church and is a member of the Copiah County Economic Development Authority.
He is married to the former Rhonda Wilson of Brookhaven. They have two children, Brad Ishee and wife, Linda, of Madison and Marci Kristen Ishee of Knoxville, Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Braden and Bryce Ishee of Madison.
