Eugene C. “Gene” Tullos played basketball under Coach A.B. Howard on the 1960-61 and 1961-62 teams.

In his freshman season, Jones won the South Division title and played in the state finals where they were defeated by Itawamba Junior College. In his sophomore season, the Bobcats won the South Division regular season crown.

Tullos was elected “Mr. Jones County Junior College” during his sophomore year. He was also named “Mr. Basketball” by the campus newspaper, The Radionian, in his sophomore year and was give the “Sportsmanship Award” that same year.

After graduating from JCJC,Tullos went to Mississippi College where he started for the basketball team in both his junior and senior seasons. He graduated from Mississippi College in May of 1964 and enrolled in the University of Mississippi Law School in June. Tullos graduated from the Ole Miss Law School in August of 1966.

He began practicing law in Raleigh shortly after graduation and has been there ever since. He practices law with his youngest brother, John R. Tullos.

Gene C. Tullos was honored as the JCJC Alumnus of the Year in 1999 and is a member of the Mississippi College Sports Hall of Fame. Serving on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Historical Society, Tullos received the Award of Merit in 2000 for his work in preserving the history of Smith County.

He is married to Nada Craft of Mize and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Raleigh.
