Box Score 2 DECATUR – After a third attempt to restart a suspended game in the 15th inning from Tuesday, Jones and East Central finally closed out a two-game series Friday afternoon at the Clark/Gay Complex.
Jones left the bases loaded in the Top of the 15th and EC made them pay with a triple and walk-off single in the bottom of the 15th for a 7-6 win. The Warriors closed out the sweep with a 6-4 game two victory.
The Bobcats, 31-9, 13-5 MACCC, will not have any chance to dwell on the losses, with Northeast headed to The Bank in less than 24 hours for a Saturday twinbill beginning at 2 p.m.
It's also Youth Day at The Bank, with grab bags at the gate and a chance to stand with the team during the anthem and run the bases after the games for area youth. Kids are encouraged to wear their team uniforms.
East Central 7, Jones 6 (15 inn.)
The game should've never reached extra innings.
An infield error with two outs in the bottom of the ninth allowed the tying run to score for EC and they'd retie it in the 13th before winning it in the 15th.
Jones tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth on a double by
Brady Thomas and single by
Wade Fulton.
After falling behind 3-2,
Evan Rogers' RBI-single tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth and Jones would take a 5-3 lead on an RBI-single from
Cole Manuel and a balk.
EC cut the lead to 5-4 on a two-out throwing error in the eighth and tied it 5-5 off a fielding error in the ninth.
Jones out-hit EC 15-11, with Rogers going 4-for-7 and both Thomas and Manuel registering three hits.
Trent Hillen tossed seven innings of five-hit ball, allowing three runs.
Brice Deaton logged 5.1 relief innings and allowed two hits and two runs but walked six.
Collin Pipkins took the ball during the restart in the 15th and allowed two hits and the game-winning run.
Bobcat pitching walked 14 and hit two in total.
East Central 6, Jones 4
Jones dug out of a 5-0 hole on Thomas' grand slam in the sixth but couldn't complete the comeback.
Beau Bryans walked four and hit one that allowed EC to take a 2-0 lead in the first. He'd walk seven in total in three innings.
Two wild pitches plated two more to make it 4-0 Warriors after three.
Trailing 5-0 in the sixth, Thomas' two-out grand slam gave the Bobcats hope.
EC tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-4 and Jones would get the tying run to the plate in the seventh before a fly out ended it.
After walking 14 in the opener, Jones walked 12 in the nightcap and hit two more.
In the two-game sweep, Bobcat pitching allowed 30 free passes, including 26 walks and four hit-by-pitches.
Fulton and
Colton Hegwood had two hits apiece to pace the offense.
