Hillen pitches game two gem to help No. 13 Jones sweep EMCC

ELLISVILLE – Brady Thomas logged his team-leading fifth save in the opener and Trent Hillen tossed a complete-game two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the nightcap to help No. 13 Jones sweep East Mississippi Saturday afternoon.

Jones improved to 24-4 overall, 6-0 in MACCC play while dropping EMCC to 17-10, 3-3 in conference play.

The Bobcats hit the road for their next two MACCC doubleheaders at Co-Lin on March 19 and at Coahoma March 23.

Jones 8, East Miss 6

Tied at 5-5 through six, Thomas' RBI-triple gave Jones the lead for good in the seventh and he would close out the game for his fifth save.

The Lions struck first on Joseph Scarborough's solo homer to right-center before five unanswered for Jones put them on top 5-1.

Cole Manuel's RBI-single tied the game in the fourth. Hays Carley then doubled to score two in the fifth, Thomas had an infield single and Manuel added an RBI-groundout.

EMCC chased Jones starter Eli Walker in the sixth after back-to-back walks and rallied to tie the game on three RBI-singles and a bases-loaded walk.

Gatlin Sanders and Evan Rogers added RBI-singles in the eighth.

Walker scattered six hits, three runs, five strikeouts and four walks in 5.0 innings. Micah Daniell got the win in relief in 3.0 innings of work.

Jones 7, East Miss 1

Hillen allowed a leadoff single in the fourth and RBI-double in the fifth but that was all in a complete-game win.

Jones struck for three runs in the first, using a two-out rally thanks to a dropped third strike. Thomas struck out but reached on a passed ball that scored one and Manuel's RBI-single and ensuing error scored two more.

Thomas had an RBI-single in the fifth and Wade Fulton added a two-run single, one of his two hits, to cap the scoring at 7-1.
