No. 13 Bobcats take twinbill over Eagles

RAYMOND – No. 13 Jones College notched an impressive sweep over Hinds here Wednesday afternoon at Joe G. Moss Field.
 
The Bobcats put up 18 hits and beat the Eagles 16-5 in eight innings in game one. Jones then posted a 6-4 decision in game two.
 
Jones is now 22-4 overall and 4-0 in MACCC play. The Bobcats will host East Mississippi in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Community Bank Park. The games will air on jcbobcats.com/watch.
 
Hinds drops to 13-14 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The Eagles host Coahoma on Saturday.

Gatlin Sanders, Hays Carley, Evan Rogers, Cole Manuel and Brady Thomas each had three hits as the Bobcats cruised to the win.
 
Rogers got it rolling in the first inning with a two-run home run. But the Eagles responded with a three-run shot in the bottom half of the frame.
 
The Bobcats took the lead for good in the second with a pair of unearned runs to make it 4-3. Jones added a run in the third on a Carly RBI single. Sanders and Rogers had RBI doubles in the fourth followed by a Manuel RBI single to make it 8-3.
 
Manuel's RBI single keyed a three-run sixth to put the Bobcats ahead 11-3. He added a two-run single in the eighth. Austin Mills walked to force in another run and Wade Fulton's two-run single ended the Bobcat scoring.
 
Manuel ended the game with four RBIs, Rogers had three and Fulton added two. Marquette Gibson and Randall Futrall added doubles and Fulton singled.
 
Brandon Rhodes (1-0) entered the game in the fifth and got credit for the win. He pitched 2.0 innings, allowed a run and four hits. Starter Beau Bryans went 4.0 innings, allowed three runs, three hits, walked four and struck out seven.
 
Tyler Janos and Brice Ainsworth homered for Hinds.
 
Starter Lincoln Sheffield (3-2) went 5.0 inning and was charged with the loss. He gave up eight runs (six earned), 10 hits, walked two and struck out four.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when Thomas homered.
 
Jones added four in the fourth when Rogers had a two-run single. He stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on the error. Gavin Brassfield doubled to right to drive in Thomas, who had been hit by a pitch, to make it 5-0.
 
Hinds answered with a run in the fourth and three in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4.
 
The Bobcats got a run in the seventh when Sanders singled to center, Rogers followed with a double to right and Thomas was intentionally walked to load the bases. Carley's sacrifice fly to center scored Sanders.
 
Thomas allowed a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh, but got a strike out and a fly out to end the game.
 
Starter Andrew Marble (4-1) went 5.0 innings and got the win. He allowed three runs, four hits, walked three and struck out three. Thomas earned his fourth save. He pitched the final two innings, giving up no runs, one hit and recording a strikeout.
 
Sanders doubled and singled twice for his second three-hit game of the day. Rogers doubled and singled. Thomas homered, Brassfield doubled and Mills singled.
 
Cameron Hill doubled and singled for the Eagles with Ainsworth and Thomas Marsala each getting two singles.
 
Starter Dawson Muenzenmay (1-1) got the loss. He went 6.0 innings, allowed five runs, six hits, walked two and struck out six.
