ELLISVILLE – A season-long, 10-game homestand came to a close on Thursday evening with a 7-2 win over Coastal Alabama-South.
Jones improved to 11-1 overall and went 9-1 during its two-week home stretch.
The Coyotes and Bobcats will play a single 9-inning game on Saturday in Bay Minette, Alabama, weather permitting.
Things couldn't have gotten off to a worse start for Bobcat pitcher
Trent Hillen.
A leadoff single, a double and a balk gave Coastal Alabama an early 2-0 lead, but that's all Hillen would allow during his five innings of work.
Jones quickly responded in its half of the first, using
Gatlin Sanders' RBI-single and back-to-back RBI-doubles from
Brady Thomas and
Cole Manuel to make it 3-2 Bobcats.
Beau Bryans' sac fly extended the lead to 4-2 in the third and
Evan Rogers' double made it 6-2 after four complete.
After allowing two hits in the first inning, Bobcat pitching allowed only two the final eight frames.
Hillen got the win,
Brandon Rhodes threw three scoreless and
Garrett Pound a clean ninth.
Sanders added an RBI-groundout in the seventh to make the final 7-2.
Rogers was 3-for-4 to lead an 11-hit attack and
Colton Hegwood and Manuel added two hits apiece.
