ELLISVILLE – Jones College and Northwest won their respective baseball regionals last week and will meet up May 13-15 at Community Bank Park in Ellisville for an automatic berth to the NJCAA Division II World Series.
The two teams split in the regular season finale on April 29-30, both going extra innings. Jones won the opener 3-2 in 11 innings and Northwest won 6-3 in nine innings in a game that was moved to Smith-Wills Stadium.
The Bobcats have won eight of the last 10 overall in the series and are 10-2 the last 12 in Ellisville.
Fourth-seeded Jones (38-16) went 3-0 at the Poplarville Regional, beating No. 24 Copiah-Lincoln 13-5 (7 inn.) and No. 1 Pearl River in consecutive days, 2-1 and 13-0 (5).
Sixth-seeded Northwest (34-19) needed extra innings in Saturday's winner-take-all game at No. 2 East Central to win the Decatur Regional. They defeated No. 21 Itawamba 12-6, ECCC 14-5, lost 11-3 to ECCC and then won the if-game.
Jones is trying to punch its ticket to Enid, Oklahoma, for the first time since winning it all in 2016. The Rangers have not been to the NJCAA World Series since 2007.
Game times for Wednesday and Thursday are 6 p.m. Friday's if-necessary game is TBD.
