Runs aplenty in 25-15 setback at Coastal Alabama-South

BAY MINETTE, Ala. – Leading by three headed into the bottom of the seventh, No. 14 Jones gave up a 13-spot to Coastal Alabama-South as the Coyotes walked off the Bobcats, 25-15.

A day earlier Jones bested Coastal, 6-3, on a complete game gem from Colton Smith.

Jones moved to 12-3 and will travel to Poplarville on Tuesday to face Gulf Coast and Pearl River in a round robin.

Jones jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Sanders Ainsworth's two-run homer, his fifth of the year.

But Coastal would immediately respond in the bottom half on a two-run homer by Grayson Roberson to tie it.

The teams traded runs in the third, and Warren Hutchinson's double in the fourth tied the game again at 5-5, before a pair of Bobcat errors helped plate three for the Coyotes and they would lead 8-5.

Trailing 10-6 going to the sixth, a five-run frame helped Jones briefly get back in front. Brayden Quick's double scored two and Dylan Champagne reached on an error that made it 11-10 Jones.

The Coyotes hit another two-run homer in the sixth to push back in front, 12-11.

Talan Theriot's two-run single helped Jones retake the lead, 13-12, in the seventh and they'd plate two more on an Ainsworth double.

But that's when things turned.

Four walks and five hit-by-pitches, mixed in with a handful of singles, doubles and wild pitches, helped the Coyotes plate 13 runs and walk off Jones 25-15.

Ainsworth finished 3-for-3 with a double, home run and five RBIs and Hutchinson, Chase Russell, Quick and Kelan Guidry each added multiple hits.
