POPLARVILLE –
Trevor Hodges threw five no-hit innings in relief of
Brayson Graham and the Bobcats scored seven unanswered runs to beat Mississippi Gulf Coast at Dub Herring Park Tuesday afternoon.
Jones has won eight of the last 10 over the Bulldogs.
Trailing 3-0 after two, Hodges entered and immediately threw up a zero with two strikeouts and a groundout.
In the bottom half, Jones scored a run off a Bulldog throwing error to get on the board and then
Dylan Champagne drilled a two-run double down the right field line to tie the game.
Still tied going to the bottom of the sixth,
Warren Hutchinson plated pinch-runner
Brady Smith on a sacrifice squeeze bunt to give Jones its first lead, 4-3, and they'd take on three more on
Chase Russell's team-leading sixth homer of the year.
Hodges got a pop out and a pair of groundouts to close out the seventh and would allow no hits with seven strikeouts to improve to 2-0.
Taking on host PRCC in the nightcap, the Wildcats plated 10 in the fifth inning and would rout the Bobcats 19-3.
Jones, 13-4, travels to Shelton State Feb. 27-28 for a three-game series.
