CORINTH – Jones College finished third in the Northeast Invitational here Tuesday at Shiloh Ridge Golf Club.
The Bobcats shot a school-record, 8-under par 280 in Monday's opening round and led the tournament by three shots over Meridian. Jones followed that up with a 290 on Tuesday to finish at 570, 6-under par.
Meridian won the event by one shot over Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Eagles shot a 283-272 – 555 (21-under) and MGCCC posted a 286-270 – 556 (20-under). Hinds was fourth in the 12-team event with a 287-286 – 573 (3-under).
Individually,
Josh Tombs (England) led Jones with a 67-73 – 140 (4-under) and finished tied for seventh.
Bastian Graf (Germany) shot a 72-69 – 141 (3-under) to tie for ninth.
Drew Groscost (Lewisburg) posted a 71-71 – 142 (2-under) to tie for 12th.
Julius Hautmann (Germany) shot a 70-77 – 147,
Walker Hall (Wayne Academy) had a 79-79 – 158 and
Matthew Eubank (Petal) fired an 88-78 – 166.
Ayers Mathis of Meridian was tournament medalist with a 67-66 – 133 (11-under). Leo Griesheimer of Copiah-Lincoln was second with a 66-68 – 134 (10-under) and Paul Hoefer of MGCCCC with third with a 67-68 – 135 (9-under). Jace Ducksworth of Meridian was fourth with a 68-68 – 136 (8-under) and Stephen Faucheaux of Hinds was fifth with a 68-69 – 137 (7-under).
The next tournament for the Bobcats will be the Jim Redgate Invitational Oct. 6-7 at Briarwood Country Club in Meridian.
