BROOKHAVEN – It was a historic two-day run for Jones College men's golf on Monday and Tuesday.
The Bobcats finished at 5-over par in the MACCC Championship here at The Club at Ole Brook. It is the highest finish in the conference tournament since Jones became a Division II program.
The Bobcats posted a 280-285 – 565 to finish 13 strokes behind Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Bulldogs shot a 278-274 – 552, 8-under par.
Jones trailed MGCCC by two shots after Monday's first round and had taken a two-shot lead midway through Tuesday's second round.
Meridian was third at 568, followed by East Central at 582, Hinds at 585 and Northeast at 587 in the 12-team event.
Those six teams qualify for the NJCAA Gulf District Tournament, which will be held April 27-29 at Castlewoods Country Club in Brandon.
Individually,
Bastian Graf led the Bobcats with a 71-69 – 140, even-par, which tied him for sixth place.
Josh Tombs and
Evan Bass both posted 70-72 – 142, 2-over par, to tie for eighth place.
Julius Hautmann shot a 69-76– 145, 5-over par, and
Drew Groscost fired a 73-72 – 145, 5-over par, to tie for 16th place.
Graf was named to the All-MACCC First Team and Groscost earned All-MACCC Second Team honors for their performance throughout the season.
Gulf Coast's Logan Jensen was medalist with a 69-67 – 136, 4-under par. That was a shot better than his teammate, Paul Hoefer, who posted a 70-67 – 137, 3-under par. Meridian's Dax Reaux was third with a 70-68 – 138, 2-under par.
