Ex-Bobcat Garrett Langrell taken in 16th round of MLB Draft

ATLANTA – Former Bobcat Garrett Langrell was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 16th round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday.

The Giants took Langrell, a 6-foot-7, 228 pound right-hander, with the 476th overall pick.

Langrell's true freshman season with Jones College was shut down after 17 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was 1-1 with three saves in nine appearances.

As a redshirt freshman in 2021, Langrell was 4-3 with a 2.78 ERA and team-leading six saves in 19 appearances to earn Second Team All-MACCC honors. He struck out 43 in 35.2 innings pitched.

Langrell signed with Eastern Kentucky and spent the 2022-24 seasons with the Colonels where he was 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA and four saves over 29 appearances. He was an ASUN Conference Honor Roll member all three years.

Langrell then opted to play his final season of eligibility at Creighton University in 2025 where he drew national attention.

Langrell was a National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) Second Team All-America selection and NCBWA Stopper of the Year candidate. He was 7-2 with 13 saves and a 3.61 ERA, tossing 52.1 innings with 57 strikeouts and only 11 walks.

The Bluejays finished 43-16 as BIG EAST Champions and fell in the Fayetteville Regional final to host Arkansas.

Langrell is the 11th former Bobcat to be drafted and first since left-handed pitcher Dalton Rogers was taken in the third round by the Boston Red Sox in the 2021 draft.

Langrell was a two-way player his senior season of high school in Bay St. Louis at Bay. He batted .449 from the plate and carried a 3.38 ERA with 69 strikeouts in 39.1 innings on the mound.
