PLYMOUTH, Ind. – Jones College finished in 14th place in the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship here at the Swan Lake Golf Resort May 20-23.
It was the first trip to nationals for the Bobcats as a full team in program history.
Jones finished at 93-over, three shots better than Mesa Community College (Arizona) in the 22-team field. The tournament was impacted by rain and high winds throughout the 72-hole event.
The Bobcats posted their best score in the final round with a 303. They shot
314-317-311 in the first three rounds.
Individually,
Drew Groscost, a freshman from Lewisburg, led Jones with a 20-over. His best round was a 74 on the final day.
Jacob Creel, a sophomore from South Jones, and
Sebastian Nowak, a sophomore from Germany, each were at 26-over. Creel's best round was a 75 and Nowak's was a 73, both in the last round.
Connor Phillips, a sophomore from East Central, finished at 30-over.
Josh Tombs, a freshman from England, played the first three rounds and
Harvey Taylor, a freshman from England, subbed for him in the final round. They combined for 35-over-par.
Mississippi Gulf Coast won the team championship for the second year in a row. They were at 26-over, which was one shot better than Illinois Central. Meridian, the only other MACCC school in the tournament, finished in a tie for ninth at 73-over-par.
MGCCC's Stanley Campbell was the individual champion with a 5-under par score. Kirkwood Community College's (Iowa) Reid Hall was second at 3-under par and Illinois Central's Trey Boecker was third at 2-under par. Those were the only three golfers to finish under par out of the 116 participants who played all four rounds.
