ELLISVILLE – Seventh-rated Jones College defeated No. 17 Northwest 6-5 in game two of a doubleheader here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
The Rangers won the opener, 10-0.
The Bobcats, 31-7 overall and 13-3 in the MACCC, visit No. 2 East Central for an important 3 p.m. doubleheader on April 24.
Northwest, 28-11 and 13-3, hosts Northeast on Monday.
Northwest 10, Jones 0
The Rangers scored four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.
Thomas and Manuel each had two singles and Fulton and Sanders added singles for Jones. Carley was hit by a pitch three times.
Eli Walker (Gulfport) started and got the loss. He went 3.0 innings, allowed five runs, five hits, walked five and struck out one.
Micah Daniell (Oak Grove),
Jake Shelby (Enterprise),
Garrett Pound (Pontotoc) and
Charlee Strickland (Northeast Jones) also pitched for the Bobcats.
Cade Leatherwood had three singles for the Rangers. Smith, Hill and Peyton Martin added two singles each.
Starter Brennan Jones went 7.0 innings and got the win. He allowed no runs, four hits, walked four and struck out two.

With the game tied 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning,
Cole Manuel (Clinton) led off with a walk and
Hays Carley (Columbia Academy) followed with a single.
Marquette Gibson (D'Iberville) followed with a sacrifice bunt.
Pinch-runner
Josh King (DeSoto Central) was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice groundout, but Carley advanced to third on the play. A wild pitch scored Carley with the game-winning run.

Gatlin Sanders' (Madison Central) single scored
Brady Thomas. An
Evan Rogers' (Northwest Rankin) single scored Sanders.
The Bobcats went up 4-1 in the third when
Wade Fulton (Brandon) singled and Rogers tripled to right-center. A
Colton Hegwood (Brandon) sacrifice fly scored Rogers.
After the Rangers cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth the Bobcats answered with a run in the bottom the frame. Carley led off with a walk and Gibson and
Austin Mills (Lafayette, Louisiana) reached on back-to-back errors. A wild pitch scored Carley.
Brice Deaton (Pontotoc) pitched the final 2.1 innings and got the win. He allowed no runs, two hits and struck out three to improve to 2-0. Starter
Andrew Marble (East Central) went 4.2 innings, allowed five runs, seven hits, walked three and struck out three.
Rogers tripled and singled and drove in two runs. Fulton, Sanders and Carley added singled.
James Smith homered and singled for the Rangers.
Starter Martin Shropshire went 5.1 innings and got the loss.
