Balanced attack helps No. 10 Jones sweep at Coahoma

Bobcats score 24 runs on 26 hits

CLARKSDALE – Jones scored 24 runs off 26 hits to swing its way past Coahoma on Saturday at the Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex.

The Bobcats improved to 27-5, 9-1 in the MACCC.

Jones hosts Gulf Coast Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Jones 10, Coahoma 0 (8 inn.)

Eli Walker worked five shutout innings and all nine Bobcats in the lineup had a hit in a run-rule game one victory.

Evan Rogers hit a two-run homer in the first and Brady Thomas a two-run shot in the fifth to make it 6-0 Bobcats through five.

RBI-singles in the fifth, sixth and seventh from Cole Manuel, Austin Mills and Hays Carley extended the lead to 9-0.

Wade Fulton's sac fly in the eighth put the run-rule in effect, scoring Randall Futral.

Jake Shelby tossed the final three innings, allowing just one hit, to earn his first save.

Jones 14, Coahoma 5

Rogers had four hits, Carley three hits and Thomas a game-high five RBIs as Jones put the wraps on a two-game sweep.

Jones led 2-0 after one thanks to RBI-singles from Rogers and Thomas.

Thomas' sac fly made it 4-0 in the third and Carley doubled to make it 5-0 Jones.

Coahoma cut it to 5-2 in the bottom of the third on a fielder's choice and Bobcat error.

Carley doubled again in the fifth to stretch the lead back out to 7-2 and Jace Lott added an RBI-groundout to make it 8-2.

But CCC fought back again within three in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of Bobcat miscues and Garrett Smith's RBI-single to cut it to 8-5.

Jones would score the final six runs of the game, highlighted by Thomas' three-run blast in the seventh.

Hillen worked four innings, allowing one earned run, to improve to 5-0. Manuel, Brandon Rhodes and Garrett Pound combined for the final three.
