No. 9 Bobcats sweep Coahoma

ELLISVILLE – The 9th-ranked Jones College Bobcats ran its winning streak to eight games with a pair of victories over Coahoma Community College here Friday at Community Bank Park.
In game one, Jones broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the sixth inning and ended the game with seven runs in the eighth as they posted a 9-1 decision. In game two, the Bobcats overcame a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the fifth inning and edged the Tigers, 3-2.
Jones, 29-7 overall and 14-6 in the MACJC, hosts Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday. Coahoma, 19-19 and 5-15, hosts Itawamba on Wednesday.

Trace Henry (Mooreville) singled to open the bottom of the first inning, stole second and scored on a Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) single to make it 1-0.
Coahoma tied it in the third when Matt Bumpous reached on an infield hit, Joe Gee singled and Jacob Compton followed with an RBI single.
The Bobcats went ahead 2-1 in the sixth when O'Neill Burgos (Brookhaven Academy) led off with a walk and Gabe Lacy (Gulfport) followed with a double. Jake Mason's (West Lauderdale) sacrifice fly to center scored Burgos.
Jones ended the game in the eighth.
Blake Johnson (Gulfport) led off with a walk and Burgos drove him in with a double to right. Lacy was hit by a pitch and Mason singled to load the bases. Chase Tilghman (West Lauderdale) walked to force Burgos home and make it 4-1. Henry's sacrifice fly to right scored Lacy and Robbie Woody (Madison Central) followed with an RBI double to make it 6-1.
Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) walked to load the bases and Hale, Johnson and Burgos followed with walks to each drive in a run and end the game.
Burgos, Hale and Lacy each doubled and singled with Henry and Mason each getting two singles. Woody had a double and Hendon added a single.
Starter Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) went 4.1 innings. He gave up one run, six hits, walked none and struck out three. Hunter Eldridge (West Lauderdale) pitched the final 3.2 innings and got the win. Eldridge, 1-0, allowed no runs, one hit, walked one and struck out three. 
Compton and Gee each doubled and singled for Coahoma. Bumpous had two singles and Rodney Hibler singled.
Starter Michael Westerfield went 7.0 innings and got the loss. He gave up four runs, 10 hits and walked two. Chase Yearwood went .1 of an inning, allowing five runs, two hits and three walks. Hibler pitched to two batters and walked both of them.
No. 9 Bobcats 3, Tigers 2
Jones had only one hit and trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the fifth when Henry led off with a triple to right-center. Woody followed with an RBI groundout to make it 2-1.
Hendon was then hit by a pitch and Hale followed with a walk. Johnson followed with a double inside the first base bag into the rightfield corner, scoring both Hendon and Hale. 
Reliever Payton Harris (Oak Grove) pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits, walking one and recording four strikeouts to post his second save of the season.
Starter Brady Greene (Montgomery, Alabama) went the first five innings and got the win, upping his record to 5-1. He allowed two runs, three hits, walked two and struck out four.
Coahoma took a 1-0 lead in the first when Gee was hit by a pitch to start the game. He scored on Compton's double to left-center.
The Tigers made it 2-0 in the fourth when Compton doubled, took third on a passed ball and scored on a groundout by Colton Norris.
Henry tripled, Johnson doubled and Mason singled for Jones.
Compton had two doubles and Norris singled for Coahoma.
Coahoma starter Trace Owens went 3.2 innings, allowed no runs, one hit, walked four and struck out one. Reliever Brandon Herring got the loss. He went 2.1 innings, giving up three runs, two hits, one walk and recording a strikeout.
