BATON ROUGE, Louisiana –
Gabe Lacy (Gulfport) homered and
Payton Harris (Oak Grove) had another solid start as No. 4 Jones College defeated Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) 6-3 in game two of a doubleheader Wednesday.
In game one, the Bears posted a 5-1 decision here at Pete Goldsby Field.
The Bobcats, 11-1, will go to New Orleans to meet Delgado in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
Baton Rouge, 6-16, visits South Suburban College (Texas) in Beaumont, Texas, on Thursday.
Bobcats 6, Bears 3
Harris went five innings and allowed two runs, eight hits, walked none and struck out two as he improved to 2-0.
Cade Killingsworth (North Pike) tossed an inning, allowing an unearned run and a hit.
Blake Johnson (Gulfport) pitched the seventh inning and recorded his second save. He gave up no runs, one hit and struck out one.
Gabe Lacy (Gulfport) had a two-run home run in the sixth inning for the Bobcats.
Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) had two singles for Jones with
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) getting a triple and Johnson a double.
Robbie Woody (Madison Central),
O'Neill Burgos (Brookhaven Academy) and
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) added singles.
Cameron Crawford tripled and doubled twice for the Bears.
Brett Fisackerly went the distance and took the loss. He gave up six runs (four earned), eight hits, walked none and struck out two.
Jones led 1-0 after an inning, 2-0 after two, 3-2 after four and 5-3 after five.
Bears 5, Bobcats 1
Jones scored in the top of the first inning, but that was it for the game.
Kirkland Trahan (Madison Central) had a double and a single for Jones with
Trace Henry (Mooreville) getting a double. Mason, Burgos and Lacy added singles.
Starter
Cade Morgan (Grenada) went seven innings and got the loss. He allowed two runs, five hits, walked one and struck out six.
Hunter Eldridge (West Lauderdale) pitched an inning, allowed three runs, one hit, walked one and struck out one.
Joseph Battaglia pitched nine innings for the Bears and got the win. He allowed one run, six hits, walked two and struck out two.
Samual Jarrell homered, singled and drove in three runs for BRCC. William Vellon doubled and singled for the Bears.
BRCC led 2-1 after two innings and got a three-run home run for Jarrell in the eighth.
