No. 2 Bobcats sweep Northeast

BOONEVILLE – Second-ranked Jones College had a successful trip north on Saturday.
The Bobcats defeated Northeast Mississippi 6-3 in game one of a doubleheader here at Harold T. White Field. Jones then got four-hit games from both Blake Johnson (Gulfport) and Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) and blasted the Tigers 13-3 in five innings in game two.
Jones, 20-2 overall and 5-1 in the MACJC, goes to Hinds for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
Northeast, 10-12 and 0-6, hosts Mississippi Delta Wednesday.

Starting pitcher Lane Thomas (Walker, Louisiana) was solid again for the Bobcats.
He went 5.1 innings, allowed no runs, three hits, walked three and struck out three as he improved to 5-0. Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) went the final 3.2 innings and got his first save of the year. He allowed three runs (two earned), three hits, walked none and struck out three.
Gabe Lacy (Gulfport) singled twice for the Bobcats. Hendon and Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) added doubles with Trace Henry (Mooreville), Robbie Woody (Madison Central), O'Neill Burgos (Brookhaven Academy), Johnson, Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) and Chase Tilghman (West Lauderdale) each getting singles. Woody and Hendon both had two RBIs.
Thomas Stevens doubled and singled twice for the Tigers with Hayes Hansford getting two doubles. Tyler Samaniego and Anthony Lipsey each had a single.
Starter Nik Wilcher went 5.1 innings and took the loss. He gave up five runs (four earned), five hits, walked one and struck out four.
Jones led 1-0 after two innings, 2-0 after four, 5-0 after five and 6-0 after six. Northeast scored all of its runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Johnson hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Hendon had a two-run blast in the second.
Hendon homered, doubled, singled twice and drove in four runs. Johnson homered, doubled, singled twice and had three RBIs. Johnson has a team-leading seven home runs on the season.
Hale and Lacy each doubled and singled with Easton Rainer (Clarkdale) getting two singles. Henry, Woody, Burgos and Kirkland Trahan (Madison Central) added singles.
Brady Greene (Montgomery, Alabama) went all five innings and got the win. He allowed three runs (two earned), six hits, walked none and struck four. He is now 3-0 on the year.
Braxton Miller doubled twice for Northeast and Simmons Sowell homered. Charles Spencer, Samaniego and Lipsey added singles.
Starter Tanner Smith went 1.1 innings and took the loss. He gave up eight runs (seven earned), 10 hits and struck out two.
Jones led 5-1 after one inning, 8-1 after two, 8-3 after three and 10-3 after four.
