CHALMETTE, Louisiana – The Jones College Bobcats went on the road for the first time this season and recorded a doubleheader sweep.
In game one, the Bobcats rallied from a 5-1 deficit and defeated the Nunez College (Louisiana) Pelicans, 7-5. In game two,
Robbie Woody (Madison Central) and
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) combined for seven RBIs as the Bobcats won, 13-3, here Wednesday night at Noel Suarez Stadium.
The Bobcats are now 6-0 and will host Shelton State (Alabama) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Monday. Saturday's home doubleheader vs. North Iowa Area has been canceled because of weather issues.
Nunez, 4-8, hosts Enterprise State (Alabama) and Mississippi Delta on Sunday.
Bobcats 7, Pelicans 5
Trace Henry (Mooreville) had two doubles, a single and scored two runs to pace the Bobcats on offense and Bobcat pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts.
Jones was down 5-1 in the sixth inning when
Blake Johnson (Gulfport) started the comeback with a two-run home run, his third blast of the season. Jones took the lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run double by
Kade Dees (Madison Central).
Dees had a double and single for Jones and
O'Neil Burgos (Brookhaven Academy) added a single. Mason, Johnson and Dees each had two RBIs.
Reliever
Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) got the win to improve to 1-0. He tossed five innings, allowed two runs (one earned), three hits, walked three and struck out nine.
Starter
Cooper Brune (Ocean Springs) went two innings, allowed three runs, two hits, walked six and struck out three. Johnson pitched the final two innings and recorded his first save. He allowed no runs, walked three and struck out three.
Nunez led 3-1 after one inning, 4-1 after three, 5-1 after five and 5-3 after six. The game was tied 5-5 after seven and Jones scored twice in the top of the eighth.
Bobcats 13, Pelicans 3

Woody had two singles and four RBIs and Mason doubled and drove in three runs.
Burgos and
Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) each doubled and singled with Johnson adding a pair of singles. Henry added a single and scored three runs.
Starter
Lane Thomas (Walker, Louisiana) went four innings and got the win to improve to 2-0. He allowed three runs (one earned), three hits, walked one and struck out three.
Cade Killingsworth (North Pike) pitched the final inning, allowing no runs, one hit, one walk and recorded two strikeouts.
The game was tied 2-2 after an inning. The Bobcats led 3-2 after three and 5-3 after four. Jones put the game away with an eight-run, fifth inning.
