ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats had a productive day on the diamond here Saturday at Community Bank Park.
First,
Kirkland Trahan (Madison Central) homered and drove in five runs as the Bobcats whipped Southeast Iowa 14-4 in eight innings.
Next,
Payton Harris (Oak Grove),
Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) and
Blake Johnson (Gulfport) combined on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts as Jones beat East Central, 8-2. Southeast Iowa beat East Central 12-7 in the first game of the day.
The Bobcats, 4-0, will visit Nunez College (Louisiana) for a doubleheader on Wednesday and return home Feb. 23 to meet North Iowa Area Community College for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
Bobcats 14, Warhawks 4

Jones took a 1-0 lead in the third when Johnson and
Chase Tilghman (West Lauderdale) singled and Johnson later scored on a passed ball.
The Bobcats responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth after Southeast Iowa tied the game in the top of the inning.
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) was hit by a pitch,
O'Neil Burgos (Brookhaven Academy) doubled him home and
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Johnson singled and Trahan followed with a run-scoring double to make it 4-1.
The Warhawks made it 4-3 in the fifth, but Jones got those runs back in the sixth when
Gabe Lacy (Gulfport) doubled, was balked to third and scored on Johnson's sacrifice fly. Trahan then homered over the rightfield wall to make it 6-3.
The Bobcats sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs on three hits, four walks and an error in the seventh. Mason had a sacrifice fly in the inning and Trahan had a two-run single as Jones took a 12-4 lead.
Jones ended the game by the 'run rule' in the eighth when Burgos singled and Hale and Johnson were hit by pitches to load the bases. Trahan walked to force in a run and
Steven Sasser's (South Jones) grounder up the middle could not be fielded, allowing Hale to score the clinching run.
Starter
Brady Greene (Montgomery, Alabama) went 4.2 innings and got the win. He allowed three runs, four hits, walked two and struck out three. Reliever
Hunter Eldridge (West Lauderdale) went the final 3.1 innings and was credited with a save. He allowed one run, six hits, walked one and struck out three.
Trahan homered, doubled and singled with Burgos getting a double and a single and Johnson adding two singles. Lacy had a double with
Trace Henry (Mooreville) and Tilghman adding singles.
Devin Buckner, Cole Tucker and Cristian Cordero had two singles each for Southeast Iowa. Gavin Logan added a double with Bryce Simon, Cooper Jones and Carlos Pineyro getting singles.
Jake Bockenstedt, the first of five Blackhawk pitchers, got the loss. He went four innings, allowed four runs (three earned), five hits, walked one and struck out two.
Southeast Iowa, who split at Hinds on Friday, is 2-2 on the season.
Bobcats 8, Warriors 2
Harris went five innings to pick up the win.
He allowed one run, two hits, walked one and struck out seven. Ausbern pitched the sixth inning and got a strikeout. Johnson pitched the final inning, picking up a strikeout and allowing a walk.
The Bobcats used a five-run, third inning to take control.
Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) led off with a single and Hale and Sasser walked to load the bases. Hendon would score on a passed ball and Mason followed with a two-run double.
Robbie Woody (Madison Central), who had drawn a walk, would score on a passed ball and Burgos drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
The Warriors got a run in the fourth when Al Dumas led off with a walk and scored on a two-out triple to left by Ken Scott.
Johnson smashed a home run to center to lead off the bottom of the fourth and give the Bobcats a 6-1 lead.
Woody led off the fifth with a double and Mason walked. Woody stole third and scored on a wild pitch. Lacy's sharp single to left drove in Mason.
The Warriors got a run in the seventh when Ryan Cupit walked and later scored on an error.
Johnson had the home run with Woody and Mason getting doubles and Hendon and Lacy adding singles.
Starter Javian Stone went 3.2 innings and got the loss, allowing six runs (five earned), three hits, three walks and six strikeouts. Austin Braswell went 2.1 innings, allowed two runs, two hits and struck out two.
East Central, 1-3, hosts Lawson State (Alabama) Tuesday.
