Baseball Bobcats open season with run rule win over Warhawks

ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats began the 2019 season in impressive fashion here on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
The Bobcats used a seven-run sixth inning to win a 13-1, 7-inning decision over Coastal Alabama-East in the first game of a doubleheader.
Starting pitcher Cooper Brune (Ocean Springs) was superb for the Bobcats. 
He went five innings, allowed no runs, three hits, struck out four, walked none and hit one.
The Bobcats had three home runs in the game – three-run blasts from Trace Henry (Mooreville) and O'Neil Burgos (Brookhaven Academy) and another shot from Blake Johnson (Gulfport).
Robbie Woody (Madison Central) had a double and two singles and Burgos also had a single. Guy Lacy (Gulfport) and Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) each had a double and two RBIs. Jake Mason (West Lauderdale), Brandon Hale (Pontotoc), Kirkland Trahan (Madison Central) and Kade Dees (Madison Central) added singles. 
Freshman Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) pitched the final two innings for the Bobcats. He allowed a run, two hits, walked one and struck out one.
The Warhawks got a triple from James Adams and singles from Boan Holland, Logan Caldwell, Hunter Reeves and Brent Nesmith.
Starter Zach Trottier pitched three innings and got the loss. He allowed five runs, four hits and walked three. Sage McWaters pitched 2.2 innings, allowed eight runs, eight hits, walked two and hit one. Nick Zabelle pitched .1 inning, allowing a hit and a walk.
Jones is now 1-0 and the Warhawks are 1-4.
