ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats completed the opening day sweep with a 6-4 win over Coastal Alabama-East in game two here Wednesday afterrnoon at Community Bank Park.
Jones won the opener, 13-1 in seven innings.
Jones, 2-0, will host Southeast Iowa at 2 p.m. Saturday in a 9/7 doubleheader. Both games will air on
www.jcjc.tv.
Coastal Alabama-East, 1-5 hosts Marion Military Institute (Alabama) in a noon doubleheader Friday.
Pitcher
Lane Thomas (Walker, Louisiana) gave Jones another excellent start in game two after
Cooper Brune's (Ocean Spirngs) start in game one.
Thomas, a transfer from Southeastern Louisiana, went five innings, allowed no runs, one hit and hit a batter. He only faced one batter over the minimum.
Jones took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when
Trace Henry (Mooreville) led off with a sharp single to center and
Robbie Woody (Madison Central) followed with an RBI double to deep center.
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) reached on a fielder's choice and
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) came through with an RBI single.
The Bobcats went up 5-0 in the second inning.
Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second by
Steven Sasser (South Jones). With two outs, Woody reached on an error, which allowed Hendon to score. Mason followed with an RBI single,
O'Neil Burgos (Brookhaven Academy) singled and Hale delivered an RBI single.
The Bobcats made it 6-0 in the fourth when Burgos and Hale singled and Guy Lacy (Gulfport) drove in the run with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Warhawks made it interesting in the sixth, taking advantage of three Jones' errors and a pair of walks, to go along with a pair of singles to plate four runs.
Hunter Eldridge (West Lauderdale) pitched the sixth inning, allowed no earned runs, two singles, two walks and notched a pair of strikeouts.
Payton Harris (Oak Grove) allowed a two-out walk in the seventh, but got a comeback ground out to end the game and record the save.
Burgos and Hale each had three singles for Jones with Woody and Lacy getting doubles. Henry, Mason, and Sasser had singles.
Faucheaux had two singles and Adams added single for the Warhawks.
Starter Cole Brown went two innings and got the loss, giving up five runs and seven hits. Reliever J.J. Pease tossed three innings, giving up a run and three hits. John Todd Weeks allowing one hit in one inning of work.
