GOODMAN – A two-run home run by
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) highlighted a seven-run, sixth inning and helped No. 2 Jones County whip Holmes 12-2 in six innings in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Charlie Donald Field.
Trace Henry (Mooreville) doubled and singled in the game, while
R.J. Brown (Columbus, Georgia) had two singles. Mason homered and had two RBIs, while
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) doubled and scored three runs.
Robbie Woody (Madison Central) singled and had two RBIs, while
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) and
Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs) added singles.
Will Freeman (Semmes, Alabama) pitched all six innings and is now 7-1 on the year. The reigning NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week allowed two runs (one earned), five hits, walked none and struck out seven.
Matt Warren singled three times for Holmes.
Kendrick LeJeune, the first of six Bulldog pitchers, went one inning, allowed three runs, two hits and took the loss.
The Bobcats led 3-0 after one inning, 4-1 after three and 5-1 after four.
JCJC, winners of 17 straight, is now 36-7 overall and tops the MACJC at 21-4.
Holmes is 17-25 and 4-23.
