CLARKSDALE – The No. 3 ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats ran their winning streak to 16 games here Saturday afternoon at the Eddie C. Smith Sports Complex.
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) blasted a three-run home run to help the Bobcats defeat Coahoma 8-2 in game two of a doubleheader.
Jones won game one, 13-1 in seven innings.
JCJC is now 35-7 overall and continues to lead the MACJC at 20-4. With one week left in the regular season, Pearl River is second at 19-5 and Meridian is third at 18-6.
The Bobcats go to Holmes for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday and end the regular season at Meridian on May 5.
Mason's home run came in the sixth inning. He also had two singles.
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) and
Miguel Morgan (South Jones) each doubled and singled, while
R.J. Brown (Columbus, Georgia) added two singles.
Trace Henry (Mooreville),
Robbie Woody (Madison Central),
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) and
Stephen Matthews (Tupelo) added singles.
Jay Simpson (Presbyterian Christian School) went six innings and got the win to improve to 6-1. Simpson allowed two runs, three hits, walked three and struck out four.
Payton Harris (Oak Grove) pitched the final inning and retired all three batters he faced.
Joe Gee singled twice for Coahoma and Edgeston had one single.
Wyatt Bailey was the starter and loser. He went 2.1 innings, allowed three runs, two hits and walked two. Eduardo Munoz, Rafael De Leon and Justin Fisher also pitched for CCC.
JCJC scored three runs in the third, led 4-1 after five and 8-2 after six.
Coahoma, 22-20 overall and 10-14 in the conference, goes to Mississippi Delta on Wednesday.
