PERKINSTON – No. 5 Jones County Junior College ran its winning streak to 10 games here Wednesday evening at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.
JCJC jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and held on for a 14-9 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast in game two of a doubleheader.
The Bobcats won game one, 4-2.
Jones, 29-7 overall and 14-4 in the MACJC, will host Mississippi Delta for a 2 p.m. Saturday doubleheader at Community Bank Park.
MGCCC, 25-11 overall and 9-9 in conference play, goes to Meridian on Saturday.
JCJC took a 3-0 lead in the first.
Trace Henry (Mooreville) walked and
Robbie Woody (Madison Central) followed with a single.
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) walked to load the bases and
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) followed with a walk to force a run home.
Hudson Harris (West Jones) hit into a fielder's choice to score a run and Mason would score on a passed ball.
The Bobcats sent 11 batters to the plate, scored seven runs took a 10-0 lead in the top of the second.
Miguel Morgan (South Jones) led off with a single and
R.J. Brown (Columbus, Georgia) doubled. Morgan scored on a wild pitch and Woody followed with an RBI single to make it 5-0.
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) and Hale followed with RBI singles and Harris had an RBI double. After
Stephen Matthews (Tupelo) walked, Morgan singled to score Harris. Matthews would later score on a balk.
MGCCC bounced back with three runs in both the second and fourth innings and a run in the fifth to make it 10-7.
The Bobcats came back with three runs in the sixth.
Woody led off with a walk and
Jacob Vick (East Central) reached on an error on a bunt. Mason's single to center scored Woody and a passed ball would advance the runners. Hale's groundout scored Vick and Harris reached on an infield single to score Mason.
After MGCCC got a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Bobcats answered with run in the top of the seventh.
R.J. Brown (Columbus, Georgia) singled, Henry reached on a fielder's choice and Woody followed with an RBI single.
Woody had three singles and two RBIs, while Brown doubled and singled twice for Jones. Harris doubled, singled and drove in three runs and Morgan singled twice. Hale singled and had three RBIs with Woullard and Mason adding singles.
Tyler Spring (Stone) went 3.2 innings, allowed six runs (none earned), three hits, walked four and struck out five. Spring is now 6-1 on the year.
Payton Harris (Oak Grove) went 2.1 innings, allowed two runs, three hits and struck out four.
Bryce Fagan (Petal) pitched an inning, allowed one run and one hit.
Starter Dustan Dille, the first of five MGCCC pitchers, got the loss. He gave up three runs (two earned), one hit, walked three and struck out one.
Alden Davis doubled twice and Isaac Williams singled twice for the Bulldogs. Colby Cagle and Cullan O'Shea homered and Brandon Parker added a single.
