BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – No. 10 Jones County broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) 5-3 in game one of a doubleheader here Thursday afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field.
Robbie Woody (Madison Central) got a base hit with two outs in the top of the seventh. An error on the play allowed both
R.J. Brown (Columbus, Georgia) and
Trace Henry (Mooreville) to score and give the Bobcats a two-run lead.
Henry had two singles in the game and
Stephen Matthews (Tupelo) belted a solo home run. Woody, Brown,
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville),
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) and
Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs) had singles for JCJC.
Cooper Brune (Ocean Springs) pitched the first six innings and got the win. He allowed three runs, four hits, walked one and struck out eight as he improved to 8-0.
Bryce Fagan (Petal) pitched the final inning and notched his fourth save. He allowed no runs, one hit, walked one and struck out one.
Starter Joseph Battaglia went 6.2 innings and took the loss. He gave up five runs (three earned), eight hits, walked one and struck out one.
Hunter David doubled and singled for Baton Rouge.
The game was tied 2-2 after one inning and JCJC led 3-2 after four. BRCC tied it in the bottom of the sixth before JCJC took the lead in the seven.
JCJC is now 26-7 on the season, while BRCC falls to 12-29.
