SCOOBA – No. 2 Jones County completed a sweep of East Mississippi with a 7-1 win in game two here Saturday night.
JCJC won game one, 12-6.
The Bobcats are now 15-3 overall and 2-0 in the MACJC.
JCJC returns home to meet No. 13 Hinds in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
East Mississippi, 7-9 overall and 0-2 n the conference, travels to Northwest on Wednesday.
In game two, once again the Bobcats scored in the top of the first inning.
Robbie Woody (Madison Central) led off by reaching on an error.
Trace Henry (Mooreville) reached on a bunt single and Woody advanced to third base.
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) then reached on a walk to load the bases.
After two strikeouts,
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) reached on a dropped third strike, allowing Woody to score.
EMCC tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.
The Bobcats would take a 3-1 lead in the fourth.
Hudson Harris (West Jones) led off with a double,
Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs) was hit by a pitch and
Stephen Matthews (Tupelo) reached on an infield single to load the bases with no outs.
After a pair of strikeouts, Woody came through with a clutch, two-run single to center.
The Bobcats added a run in the fifth.
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) reached on an error, Pepper singled and Matthews followed with an RBI single.
JCJC closed the scoring in the sixth.
Woody reached on an error and Henry singled. Woullard drove in both runners with a double to right. Woullard would later score on a wild pitch.
Starter
Jay Simpson (Presbyterian Christian School) allowed one run, two hits, struck out seven and walked one to get the win. He is now 3-1.
Bryce Fagan (Petal) pitched an inning, struck out two and allowed one hit.
Will Freeman (Semmes, Alabama) pitched the final inning, allowed one hit and struck out one.
Henry and Matthews each singled twice for the Bobcats, while Harris and Woullard had doubles. Woody and Pepper added singles.
