EUNICE, Louisiana – No. 2 LSU-Eunice scored three runs on one hit in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally from a 2-0 deficit and defeat No. 1 Jones County 3-2 here Friday at Bengal Field.
It was heartbreaker for the Bobcats vs. the Bengals.
Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the eighth, Chance Clark led off with a single – only LSU-Eunice's second hit of the game – and stole second. He then took third on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, Brent Hebert walked. Hebert stole second and Clark scored on an error on the same play.
Mason Templet then drew a walk. Hebert and Templet then executed a double steal to put runners at second and third with one out. Jacob Spell followed with an RBI ground out to tie the game at 2-2.
After an intentional walk to Cameron Horton, Hayden Mixon drew a walk to load the bases.
Templet then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
In the top of the ninth, Miguel Morgan (South Jones) drew a one-out walk and Trace Henry (Mooreville) drew a two-out walk.
But a fly out to centerfield ended the game.
The Bobcats had taken a 1-0 lead in the third when Henry walked, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Luther Woullard (D'Iberville).
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the eighth.
Stephen Matthews (Tupelo) walked, stole second and was sacrificed to third by Henry. After a walk to Brandon Hale (Pontotoc), Woullard came through with an RBI single.
