ELLISVILLE –
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) came through in the clutch for top-ranked Jones County.
Woullard blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally the Bobcats to a dramatic 7-6 victory over No. 5 (Division I) Dyersburg St. (Tennessee) in game two here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
The Bobcats were down 6-2 entering the bottom of the sixth of the scheduled seven-inning game when a one hour, 20-minute rain delay occurred.
After the delay, JCJC scored five runs in the sixth and closed it out in the seventh to get the win.
JCJC won game one, 3-0.
JCJC, 8-0, travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to face Shelton St. in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
Dyersburg St., 5-3, goes to Mississippi Gulf Coast for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
JCJC was trailing 6-2 entering the bottom of the sixth.
Miguel Morgan (South Jones) drew a leadoff walk and then the rains came.
When the game resumed,
Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) singled and
R.J. Brown (Columbus, Georgia) followed with an RBI single to score pinchrunner
Jacob Vick (East Central). After a sacrifice by
Robbie Woody (Madison Central),
Trace Henry (Mooreville) walked to load the bases.
Woullard, a University of New Orleans signee, then launched a 2-2 pitch over the leftfield wall to clear the bases and give the Bobcats the lead.
In the top of the seventh, Hagan Severance doubled with one out.
JCJC brought
Will Freeman (Semmes, Alabama) in to the game. Freeman got a flyout and a strikeout to record his first save of the year.
The Eagles had taken a 1-0 lead in the first when Daino Deas singled, Reed Smith doubled and Spencer Yankle delivered a sacrifice fly.
The Bobcats tied it in the bottom of the first when Henry reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on
Luke Hudson's (Presbyterian Christian School) single.
Dyersburg St. went up 5-1 in the third. Severance walked, J.P. Bitzenhofer singled and Blake McCutcheon reached on a bunt single.
With two outs, Smith drilled a grand slam to give the Eagles a four-run lead.
The Bobcats got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when Steven Matthews (Tupelo) doubled, took third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out by
Hudson Harris (West Jones).
The Eagles went up 6-2 in the top of the sixth when Dean singled, Smith singled and Ladarius Williams got an RBI single.

Tyler Spring (Stone) went the first three innings, allowed one run, three hits, walked one and struck out two.
D.J. Alexander (Gretna, Louisiana) tossed .2 of an inning, allowed four runs, four hits, walked one and struck out two.
Will Hicks (Germantown) tossed two innings, allowed one run, three hits and struck out one.
Payton Harris (Oak Grove) pitched .1 of an inning, walked one and got the win to go to 1-0.
Luke McKenzie (Columbia Academy) pitched .2 of an inning and allowed one hit.
Hale and Brown each had two singles for JCJC. Woullard homered, Matthews doubled and Woody, Henry and Hudson added singles.
Smith homered, doubled and singled for Dyersburg St. Severance had two doubles with Deas and Williams each getting two singles. Bitzenhofer and McCutcheon added singles.
Starter Tommy Morren went four innings, allowed two runs, six hits, walked two and struck out three. Will Nash went an inning and gave up one run and three walks. Hunter Pope did not retire the two batters he faced, allowing two hits. Bryan Perez took the loss, pitching an inning, allowing two runs, one hit and one walk.
