BREWTON, Alabama – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College rallied for a 5-4, eight-inning victory over Coastal Alabama-East here Thursday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader.
JCJC trailed 4-2 entering the top of the seventh inning of the scheduled seven-inning contest.
Trace Henry (Mooreville) was hit by a pitch and
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) reached on a fielder's choice to start the inning. Henry would later score on a
Stephen Matthews' (Tupelo) single and Woullard scored on an error to tie the game.
The Bobcats scored the go-ahead run in the eighth when Henry singled and would later score on a passed ball.
Bryce Fagan (Petal) retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Fagan pitched the final two innings and got the win, allowing no hits and striking out two.
Starter
Jay Simpson (Presbyterian Christian School) went four innings, allowed four runs, six hits, walked one and struck out two.
Grayson Livingston (Wayne Academy) pitched 1.2 innings, allowed no runs, 3 hits, walked one and struck out one.
Payton Harris (Oak Grove) pitched .1 inning and got a strikeout.
Luke Hudson (Presbyterian Christian School) tripled and singled, while Matthews doubled and singled and Henry singled twice.
Hudson Harris (West Jones),
Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs) and
Robbie Woody (Madison Central) added singles.
Hunter Reeves homered, doubled and singled for the Warhawks.
Dalton Rone was charged with the loss.
The Bobcats scored twice in the top of the first, but the Warhawks would respond with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Coastal Alabama-East took a 4-2 lead in the third.
