ELLISVILLE – No. 1-rated Jones County Junior College completed a sweep of Southwest Tennesse here Friday night at Community Bank Park.
Three Bobcat pitchers combined on a three-hitter as JCJC won, 6-2.
Starter
Cooper Brune (Ocean Springs) and relievers
Payton Harris (Oak Grove) and
Bryce Fagan (Petal) also combined for 12 strikeouts in the seven-inning game.
Brune went the first four innings and got the win. He allowed one hit, struck out seven and walked five. Harris pitched an inning, allowed one hit, walked two and struck out one. Fagan pitched the final two innings, allowed one hit, struck out four and walked one.
R.J. Brown (Columbus, Georgia) doubled and singled for the Bobcats with
Trace Henry (Mooreville) and
Stephen Matthews (Tupelo) each getting two singles.
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) and
Hudson Harris (West Jones) each doubled and
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) and
Miguel Morgan (South Jones) added singles.
Blake Daniels doubled for the Saluquis with Nate Sumner and Jacob Nobles adding singles.
Benton Garrison was the starter and loser, going four-plus innings, allowing five hits, one walk and recording two strikeouts. Trey Boren went .2 innings, allowed three hits and walked one. Chandler Gant retired the one batter he faced and Cannon Duke pitched an inning, allowed two hits, walked one and struck out one.
The game was tied 1-1 after two innings and the Bobcats led 3-1 after three. Jones went up 6-1 after five before Southwest Tennessee scored a run in the sixth.
The Bobcats, 2-0, are scheduled to play a noon doubleheader on Tuesday at Brewton, Alabama, vs. Coastal Alabama-East. JCJC's next home appearance will be a noon doubleheader on Feb. 17 vs. Mineral Area College (Missouri).
Southwest Tennessee, 0-6, is scheduled to play at Meridian Community College on Sunday and Northwest Mississippi on Tuesday.
