SUMMIT –
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) hit two home runs as No. 1 Jones County Junior College defeated Southwest Mississippi 13-1 in seven innings of a scheduled nine-inning game here Wednesday afternoon.
Jones led 2-0 after one inning, 5-0 after three, 8-0 after four, 9-1 after five and 12-1 after six innings.
Franklin had two home runs, including an inside-the-park homer, a single and drove in three runs.
Erick Hoard (Brandon) had two triples, a double, a single, went 4-for-4 at the plate and had two RBIs.
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) doubled, singled and had two RBIs, while
Tanner Huddleston (George County) and
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) both doubled.
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) had a single. Huddleston and Parker each had two RBIs.
Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) went six innings and got the win as he upped his record to 8-0. He allowed one run, two hits, walked none and struck out five.
Kyle Shepherd (Collegiate Christian) pitched the final inning, got a strikeout and gave up one hit.
Austin Moen homered for Southwest with T Tez Cole and Ray Hutchinson getting singles.
Carr Young went the first five innings and took the loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned), nine hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Mitchell Foreman and Jarid Sturgeon each pitched an inning.
