ELLISVILLE – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College whipped Coahoma Community College 16-2 in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) led off with a single, stole second and scored a single by
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin). Wallace stole second, took third on a groundout by
Erick Hoard (Brandon) and scored on a double by
Tanner Huddleston (George County).
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) drew a walk and
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) reached on an error, which allowed Huddleston to score.
Hudson Harris (West Jones) singled to score courtesy runner
Jacob Vick (East Central).
Caleb Ledet's (Houma, Louisiana) sacrifice fly to left scored Hiatt.
The Bobcats added two runs in the second when Hoard singled and Huddleston reached on an error. Parker followed with an RBI single and Hiatt delivered a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers got two runs in the third when Trenton Johns singled and Marcellus Edgeston doubled. Zach Gilder reached on an error, which allowed both runs to score.
Jones responded with four runs in the bottom of the third.
Harris led off with a single and Ledet walked. Franklin reached on a fielder's choice and Wallace had an RBI single. Hoard tripled to right to drive in two runs and Huddleston followed with an RBI double.
The Bobcats closed the scoring in the fourth.
Harris singled, Ledet walked and Wallace drove them in with a double. Hoard then crushed a home run over the leftfield wall and
Miguel Morgan (South Jones) followed with another home run to center.
Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) posted the win. He tossed five innings, allowed two runs (none earned), three hits, walked none and struck out two. Stiglets is now 10-0.
Kyle Shepherd (Collegiate Christian) pitched an inning, allowed one hit and got a strikeout.
Zach Taylor (Brandon) pitched an inning, walked one and allowed no hits.
Harris had four singles for Jones. Hoard homered, tripled, singled and drove in four runs. Wallace singled twice, doubled and also had four RBIs. Huddleston doubled and singled, while Parker singled twice. Morgan homered with Franklin and Vick adding singles.
Gabriel Marti started, only lasted 1/3 of an inning and got the loss. He allowed three runs and three hits. Mason Avary pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed 13 runs (nine earned), 12 hits, walked three and struck out one. Hayden Tapper pitched two innings, allowed no runs, two hits and walked one.
Edgeston doubled for the Tigers with Johns, Hector Torres and Latalo Newson adding singles.
