POPLARVILLE –
Mason Strickland (South Jones) tossed a 3-hit shutout to lead No. 1 Jones County Junior College to a 10-0 victory over Pearl River Community College in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
Strickland was in control from the start, as he improved to 9-1.
The Southern Miss signee walked one and struck out seven.
JCJC opened up a 4-0 lead in the second inning when
Tanner Huddleston (George County) doubled, went to third on a
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) groundout and scored on a
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) single.
With two outs,
Hudson Harris (West Jones) was hit by a pitch and
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) singled to load the bases.
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) lined a single to center to score two runs and Hiatt would then score on a wild pitch.
JCJC came back with a bases-empty, two-out rally in the third to make it 7-0.
Huddleston doubled, Parker singled and Hiatt delivered a two-run double.
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) then drove in Hiatt with a single.
The Bobcats added a run in the sixth when Hiatt singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Harris.
In the ninth, Ledet led off with a double and scored on a triple by Franklin. Franklin then scored on a wild pitch.
Hiatt doubled, singled twice and drove in three runs. Franklin tripled, singled and also had three RBIs. Huddleston had a pair of doubles, while Ledet doubled and singled. Parker, Woullard and Harris added singles.
Donte Peters, Lucas Scott and Jonathan Turner singled for PRCC.
Peyton Lee was the starter and loser. He went six innings, allowed eight runs, 10 hits, walked none and struck out four. Gage Clark pitched two innings and Dalton Rieden pitched one inning.
