No. 1 Bobcats whip PRCC 11-3 to complete sweep

POPLARVILLE – Top-rated Jones County Junior College jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and cruised to an 11-3 decision over Pearl River Community College here Wednesday evening in game two of a doubleheader.
The Bobcats won the opener, 10-0.
JCJC is now 38-2 overall and 20-2 in the MACJC. The Bobcats host Coahoma in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
Jones holds a 5-game lead over Hinds in conference play with six games remaining. If JCJC sweeps Coahoma on Saturday, the Bobcats will claim the MACJC title and will host the Region 23 Tournament May 17-20 at Community Bank Park.
The Wildcats fall to 21-15 overall and 12-10 in league play. They host Holmes Saturday.
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) and Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) walked to start the second inning and Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs) singled to load the bases.
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) drew a walk to force a run home and Fred Franklin's (West Lauderdale) groundout scored another. Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) then delivered a two-run single.
PRCC scored twice in the third when Peyton Lee singled and Simon Landry hit a two-run home run.
The Bobcats extended the lead to 7-2 in the fifth inning.
Franklin led off with a single and Wallace drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a double steal and Erick Hoard (Brandon) followed with an RBI groundout. Tanner Huddleston (George County) doubled a run home and after Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) walked, Hiatt came through with an RBI single.
A Franklin solo home run in the sixth gave the Bobcats an 8-2 lead.
PRCC got a run in the bottom of the sixth when Graham Hackbarth walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on an error.
JCJC scored three runs in the top of the seventh.
Parker doubled, Hiatt walked and Woullard followed with an RBI double. Pepper then delivered a two-run single.
Logan Robbins (George County) went the first six innings and got the win, upping his record to 10-0. He allowed three runs (two earned), five hits, walked two and struck out eight. Will Freeman (Semmes, Alabama) pitched the seventh inning, struck out the side and gave up two hits.
Pepper had three singles and two RBIs, while Franklin homered and singled. Parker doubled and singled and Wallace had two singles. Huddleston and Hoard each had doubles, while Miguel Morgan (South Jones), Hiatt, Woullard and Ledet added singles.
Landry homered, Donte Peters doubled and Lee and Nosh Nicaud had two singles each for PRCC. Brody Bray added a single.
Starter Jason Garrett went the first four innings and took the loss. He allowed six runs, seven hits, walked four and struck out two. Luke Bradley pitched two innings and Lee pitched one inning.
