MOORHEAD – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College scored 10 runs over the final four innings and defeated Mississippi Delta Community College 12-3 in game one of a doubleheader here Friday afternoon at the Jimmy Bellipanni Baseball Complex.
MDCC scored single runs in the first and second innings before Jones tied it up in the third.
Tanner Huddleston (George County) reached on an error and
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) drew a walk.
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) followed with a two-run double.
The Bobcats went ahead 3-2 in the sixth when
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana).
Jones added a run in the seventh when
Erick Hoard (Brandon) singled, Huddleston walked and Parker walked to load the bases. Hiatt's sacrifice fly to left scored Hoard.
JCJC took an 8-2 lead in the eighth.
Ledet singled and
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) reached on an error. Ledet would score on an error and Franklin scored on a single by
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin). Hoard followed with a two-run home run.
The Bobcats scored four runs in the ninth.
Hiatt singled, Woullard doubled and
J.D. Polles (Presbyterian Christian School) walked to load the bases. Hiatt scored on a passed ball and Ledet walked. Wallace drove in Woullard with a sacrifice fly. Polles came home on a balk and Hoard's single scored Ledet.
The Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the ninth.
Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) got the win. He went seven innings, allowed two runs (none earned), five hits, walked none and struck out seven. He is now 9-0 on the year.
Brayden Hodge (South Jones) pitched an inning, allowed no runs, one hit, walked two and struck out one.
Tristan Labove (Petal) pitched the ninth inning, allowed one run, two hits, walked none and struck out one.
Hoard homered, singled three times and drove in three runs. Hiatt double, singled twice and drove in three runs. Woullard doubled and singled with Wallace and Ledet getting two singles each. Franklin and Huddleston added singles.
Trey Jones, the first of five MDCC pitchers, took the loss. He lasted 7 1/3 innings, allowed five runs (two earned), nine hits, walked four and struck out two.
Wendell Rieves and Payton Lane each doubled and singled for the Trojans, while Jake Hartman singled twice. Tyler Jones, Kaleb Bell and Dawson Ivey added singles.
