ELLISVILLE –
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) drove in all four runs as No. 1 Jones County Junior College edged Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 4-3 in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Communty Bank Park.
JCJC had to come from behind twice in the contest.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Josh Lewis singled and was sacrificed to second by Dylan Menhennett. Ian Goff singled to send Lewis to third. He scored on a fielder's choice by Chase Rhodes.
Jones tied it in the bottom of the third when
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) walked, stole second, went to third when
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) was thrown out on a dropped third strike and scored on a single by Wallace.
MGCCC regained the lead at 3-1 in the fourth. Beau Bratton singled, Champ Davison doubled and Lewis followed with a two-run single.
JCJC tied it in the fifth.
Woullard and
Hudson Harris (West Jones) started the inning with singles. Franklin reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Wallace followed with a two-run single to center.
The Bobcats scored what proved to be the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh when Franklin singled, stole second and third and scored on a Wallace sacrifice fly.
Starter
Mason Strickland (South Jones) went eight innings and got the win to improve to 8-1. He allowed three runs, seven hits, walked one and struck out three.
Tristan Labove (Petal) got his third save of the year. He pitched the ninth inning, allowed no hits, walked one and struck out one.
Wallace had two singles and four RBIs. Franklin,
Erick Hoard (Brandon),
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana), Woullard and Harris added singles.
Ty Barnes went seven innings and took the loss. He gave up four runs, six hits, walked three and struck out four. Mason Sullivan pitched an inning, allowed no runs, one hit and struck out one.
Davison doubled and singled and Lewis had two singles for MGCCC. Goff, Tyler Evans and Bratton added singles.
