ELLISVILLE – Sophomore lefthander
Reed Michel (West Lauderdale) tossed a three-hit shutout to lead No. 1 Jones County to a 3-0 win over Copiah-Lincoln in game two of a doubleheader here Tuesday at Community Bank Park.
Jones won the opener, 16-6 in eight innings.
The Bobcats are now 33-1 overall and lead the MACJC at 15-1. Co-Lin drops to 13-18 overall, 7-7 in the conference.
JCJC will host Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on April 19. Co-Lin hosts Coahoma on Friday.
Michel was the story in game two.
He went the distance, allowed just three hits, walked three and struck out seven. He is now 6-0 on the year.
The Bobcats took advantage of Co-Lin miscues to score all of their runs.
In the third, Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) reached on a bunt single and went to second on an error. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
JCJC added two runs in the fifth, taking advantage of three Co-Lin errors.
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) reached on a two-base error to start the inning and was sacrificed to third by Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs). Ledet singled to score Woullard and went all the way to third base when the ball got past the centerfielder. Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) then reached on an error, which scored Ledet.
Ledet had two singles, while Wallace,
Erick Hoard (Brandon) and Jacob Hiatt (Petal) added singles.
Blake Sigrest took the loss. He went 5 2/3 innings, allowed three runs (none earned), five hits, walked none and struck out five. Tyler Ethridge got the final out.
Kody Smith doubled for the Wolves with Wright, O'Flynn, Mordecai and Kyle Whittington adding singles.
