DECATUR –
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) had four hits as No. 1 Jones County beat No. 6 East Central 7-4 in game one here Tuesday afternoon at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex.
Jones took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) singled, stole second, went to third on a throwing error and scored on a single by Wallace.
JCJC added three runs in the fifth.
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) and Franklin both had bunt singles to start the inning and Wallace followed with a two-run double. With two outs,
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) singled and Wallace scored on an error.
The Bobcats made it 6-0 in the sixth when
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) led off with a walk and
Hudson Harris (West Jones) sacrificed. Woullard stole third and scored on a throwing error. Ledet reached on an infield single and later scored on wild pitch.
East Central scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh to trim the lead to 6-4.
The Bobcats added a run in the top of the ninth.
Tanner Huddleston (George County) reached on an error, stole second, went to third on a fly ball and scored on a single by Harris.
Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) started and got the win to improve to 7-0. He pitched six innings, allowed four runs (three earned), six hits, walked none and struck out one.
Will Freeman (Semmes, Alabama) recorded his fourth save of the season. He tossed the final three innings, allowed no runs, two hits, walked none and struck out two.
Wallace doubled, singled three times and drove in four runs. Woullard doubled and singled twice with Franklin and Ledet getting two singles each.
Erick Hoard (Brandon), Huddleston, Parker,
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) and Harris added singles.
Luke Yancey homered and singled for the Warriors. Ty Alderman had a home run with Cole Prestegard and Nathan Roseberry getting doubles. Jacob Edwards, Brandon Clark and Wyatt Ball had singles.
Brooks Warren – the first of five ECCC pitchers – took the loss. He gave up three runs, seven hits and two walks in four innings of work.
