DECATUR – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College belted four home runs and posted an 11-6 victory over No. 6 East Central here Tuesday afternoon in game two of a doubleheader at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex.
JCJC won the opener, 7-4.
The Bobcats are now 25-1 overall and 7-1 in the MACJC. JCJC travels to Northeast Mississippi for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
East Central, 20-6 overall and 6-2 in the league, hosts Mississippi Delta on Saturday.
A six-run first inning also keyed the Bobcats.
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) led off with a walk and
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) drove him in with a double to center. Wallace went to third on an error and Tanner Huddleston (George County) drew a walk. Wallace then scored on the front end of a double steal.
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) followed with his first home run of the season, a three-run blast to make it 5-0. Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) then hit another home run.
ECCC picked up a run in the bottom of the first.
Erick Hoard (Brandon) then hit his seventh home run of the season in the second to give the Bobcats a 7-1 lead.
The Warriors cut the lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the second.
The Bobcats added a run in the third when Woullard walked,
Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs) reached on a fielder's choice, Franklin walked to load the bases and Wallace was hit by a pitch to score Woullard.
Jones took a 9-4 lead in the fourth when Huddleston and
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) singled and Hiatt's groundout scored Huddleston.
ECCC got a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Parker then homered in the sixth to make it 10-5.
The Warriors scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bobcats got a run in the seventh when Pepper walked and was replaced by courtesy runner
Jacob Vick (East Central). Vick stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball.
Bryce Fagan (Petal) pitched two innings in relief and got his first win of the season. He allowed no hits and struck out two.
Tristan Labove (Petal) pitched the final two innings, allowed one run, three hits, walked one and struck out three. Starter
Reed Michel (West Lauderdale) went three innings, allowed four earned runs, five hits, walked two and struck out four.
Hiatt homered and drove in four runs, while Parker homered and singled. Huddleston doubled and singled, while Hoard and Woullard homered. Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) had a single.
Brandon Clark doubled twice and singled for East Central with Billy Cameron getting a double and a single. Jacob Edwards and Luke Yancey each singled twice, while Hunter Bennett singled.
Cole Gray was the starter and loser. He lasted 1 1/3 innings, allowed seven runs, six hits and walked three.
