SENATOBIA – Northwest Mississippi handed No. 1 Jones County Junior College its first loss of the season here Friday afternoon at Jim Miles Field.
The Rangers beat the Bobcats 11-1 in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader.
JCJC scored a run in the top of the first inning, but it was all Rangers after that.
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) led off with a single, stole second and third and scored on a passed ball.
Northwest answered with four runs in the second, three in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Franklin,
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin),
Erick Hoard (Brandon) and
Hudson Harris (West Jones) singled for JCJC.
Mason Strickland (South Jones) was the starter and loser, falling to 6-1. He pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed seven runs, seven hits, walked three and struck out three.
Kyle Shepherd (Christian Collegiate) pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed three runs (two earned), four hits, walked two and struck out three.
Bryce Fagan (Petal) pitched an inning, giving up one run, three hits and recording a strikeout.
Jarod Wright went the distance for the Rangers and got the win. He pitched seven innings, gave up one earned run, four hits, walked two and struck out 10, as he improved to 4-1.
Northwest leadoff batter David Herrington homered, doubled, singled and drove in five runs. Aaron Campbell, Bailey Nix and Dakota Dailey each doubled and singled, while Justin Milam singled twice. Will Brooks had a double with Garrett McMinn and Brooks Boolos adding singles.
