Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout as No. 1 Jones County defeated No. 19 Hinds 9-0 in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Joe G. Moss Field.
Stiglets struck out four and walked one as he improved to 6-0.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Hudson Harris (West Jones) doubled, but was thrown out trying to score after
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) singled. Ledet would advance to third on a pair of errors and scored on a
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) single.
JCJC increased the lead to 5-0 in the sixth.
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) and
Erick Hoard (Brandon) singled and
Tanner Huddleston (George County) followed with an RBI single.
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) delivered an RBI double and
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) followed with an RBI single. Harris' sacrifice fly to right scored courtesy runner
Jacob Vick (East Central).
Jones added four runs in the ninth.
Jacob Hiatt (Petal), Woullard and Harris each singled. Ledet reached on an error, which allowed Woullard to score.
After Franklin reached on a fielder's choice, Wallace doubled to left to make it 8-0. Hoard singled Wallace home.
Offensively, the Bobcats pounded out 19 hits.
Hoard and Huddleston each had three singles, while Wallace and Harris each doubled and singled. Franklin, Hiatt, Woullard and Ledet had two singles each, while Parker doubled.
Braedon Barrett had two singles for Hinds and Nathan Babb had one single.
Ethan Dailey, the first of four pitchers for the Eagles, took the loss. He allowed three runs (two earned), eight hits, walked one and struck out two. Brandon Ross, Colin Coates and Cartez Posey also pitched.
JCJC is now 21-0 on the season.
