Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) drove in all three runs as No. 1 Jones County defeated No. 14 East Mississippi 3-1 in game two of a doubleheader here Satruday evening at Gerald Poole Field.
JCJC is now 20-0 overall and 2-0 in the MACJC. The Bobcats go to Hinds for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
EMCC is 9-5 overall and 0-2 in the MACJC. The Lions host Northwest Wednesday.
Wallace's two-run single in the top of the ninth broke a 1-1 tie. It was a scheduled seven-inning game.
EMCC's Marcus Ragan hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
It stayed that way until the fifth.
Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs) had a one-out single and was replaced by courtesy runner
Jacob Vick (East Central).
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) then singled to load the bases and Wallace's sacrifice fly to right scored Vick.
JCJC started the game-winning rally with nobody on and two outs in the ninth.
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) got a single and Franklin followed with a walk. After a balk advanced the runners, Wallace followed with a two-run single to center.
Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) pitched the final three innings and got the win. He allowed no runs, one hit, walked none and struck out three as he upped his record to 5-0. Starter
Logan Robbins (George County) went six innings, allowed one run, five hits, walked one and struck out 11.
EMCC starter Vijay Miller went seven innings, allowed one run, five hits, walked one and struck out eight. Reliever Eli Leathers pitched the final two innings, allowed two runs, two hits, walked two, struck out three and took the loss.
