MOBILE, Alabama – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College posted a 4-2 victory over the Spring Hill College Junior Varsity here Friday afternoon.
JCJC took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) led off with a single and
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a double steal and
Tanner Huddleston (George County) followed with an RBI single.
Huddleston stole second and
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) followed with a two-run single.
Spring Hill got single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make it 3-2.
JCJC added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana) led off with a walk, advanced to second and third on passed balls and scored on Franklin's sacrifice fly to center.
Mason Strickland (South Jones) started and picked up the win. He went five innings, allowed two runs (one earned), five hits, walked one and struck out three. He is now 5-0.
Tristan Labove pitched the sixth inning, allowed one hit and struck out two.
Will Freeman (Semmes, Alabama) pitched the final inning and got his second save. He gave up one hit and struck out one.
Franklin and Parker had two singles each, while Wallace,
Erick Hoard (Brandon), Huddleston,
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) and Ledet each had a single.
