BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College held off a ninth inning Baton Rouge rally and defeated the Bears 4-3 here Tuesday at Pete Goldsby Field.
Earlier, JCJC had beaten Meridian, 12-4. It was the first road trip of the season for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats are now 12-0 on the season and will host Illinois Central in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday at Community Bank Park.
JCJC led 2-0 after three innings and 4-0 after seven.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Bears scored three times before the Bobcats got the final out.
Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) went 8 1/3 innings and got the win. He allowed three runs, five hits, walked one and struck out two as he improved to 3-0.
Kyle Shepherd (Collegiate Christian) got his second save. He got the final two outs, allowed one hit and struck out one.
Erick Hoard (Brandon) homered, singled and drove in three runs for the Bobcats.
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) tripled, while Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale),
Tanner Huddleston (George County), Jacob Hiatt (Petal) and
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) added singles.
Melvin Frazier started, went five innings and took the loss.
Aidan Hodges had two singles for the Bears.
BRCC, 11-16, hosts Copiah-Lincoln on Saturday.
